Cantab Slam for Wednesday, November 14, 2018: No Net Poetry Slam

The Boston Poetry Slam is pleased to continue our 2018 wild ‘n’ boisterous slam series with an open head-to-head poetry slam. Audiences should expect all the excitement of a typical slam, made higher-stakes by asking a poets to work “without a net:” memorized poems will earn a big points bonus in every round.

Potential slammers will want to know more about the format, so here goes: this three-round event in our series will welcome poems on any subject, style, and form, using the standard slam rules. That means poems must be original work by the performer and are limited to three minutes with no props, costumes, or musical accompaniment. The format is head-to-head, so each poet must outscore a single opponent to gain passage to the next round. First-time slammers are encouraged to read our guide for more information. In addition, the following BONUSES will apply:

  • +2 points for any MEMORIZED POEM: no paper, phone, tablet, notes on your hand, cues from your friends, etc.
  • +0.5 points for any NEW POEM: a poem never before performed at the Cantab Lounge

Up to four advance sign-ups will be accepted, with the remaining accepted as walk-ins on the night of the show, for a grand total of eight slammers. The prize for winning the slam is eternal glory, plus a whopping $25.
