The Encyclopedia Show

The Encyclopedia Show: Somerville is a monthly themed variety show, franchised from the original show in Chicago. Founded by Simone Beaubien in 2012, the new iteration returns to the stage in 2015 under direction of Catherine Martin and with production support from the Boston Poetry Slam. The most up-to-date information on the show can always be found on the Encyclopedia Show: Somerville Facebook Page.

The Show is held in the Davis Square Theater at 255 Elm Street in Davis Square, Somerville. Doors open at 7pm, and the show begins at 8. Tickets are $10, or $7 for students and teachers. The upcoming season will include the following themes:

• Thursday, September 10, 2015 — INSECTS
• Tuesday, October 20, 2015 — WYOMING
• Thursday, December 10, 2015 — THE CIRCUS
• Thursday, March 10, 2016 — THE PERIODIC TABLE
• Thursday, April 14, 2016 — CIVIL WARS
• Thursday, May 26, 2016 — EXERCISE
• Thursday, June 9, 2016 — THE SUBURBS

The event consists of a vaudeville-style variety show that invites poets, musicians, comics, and other performing artists to compose new and original work for an age-integrated, genre-busting, hyphen-and-adjective-packed show that is designed to entertain, educate, and inspire. Artists present on a different theme each month, determined by the order of the original Chicago show! Audience members are guided through the experience by the Show’s recurring cast and hosts, as well as assured definitive Truth at every turn by the Fact Checker from the Institute of Human Knowledge and Hygiene.

Come see poetry, music, comedy, dance, and much more, performed by local artists and a stalwart cast of vaudevillian characters. We are pleased to welcome the following cast members to the 2015-2016 season:

• Performance poet and screenwriter Chloé Cunha will debut as our latest CO-HOST
• Accredited comedian and general weirdo Rob Crean will also don a newly-sewn mantle of CO-HOST
• Multi-faceted writer and performer Jade Sylvan as FACT CHECKER JACK VAN SLY
• Boston-area comic and poet Wes Hazard as THE QUESTIONABLE EXPERT
• Providence SlamMaster and educator Megan Thoma as educational consultant TEACHER MEG
• Musician and writer Steve Subrizi as the unpaid INTERN
• And the indie/pop folk ensemble The Michael J. Epstein Memorial Library as our fabulous HOUSE BAND.
